JAPANESE ANIMATION FILMS TO BE SHOWN IN EDINBURGH AND GLASGOW

There will be a major festival of the famous animation films of Studio Ghibli in Edinburgh and Glasgow early in the New Year. Studio Ghibli has produced many high quality animation films over the last 20 years. Many of these regularly beat Disney films at the Japanese box office while in 1997 Princess Mononoke became the biggest grossing film in Japanese history. They are films for all ages and all the family and will also appeal to those who don't normally enjoy animation films.
( I can particularly recommend My Neighbour Totoro which my children enjoyed even in Japanese and Grave of the Fireflies, which is based on the true and very moving story of two children orphaned during the war - Ed)

In Edinburgh the Filmhouse in Lothian Road will be showing 11 Ghibli films between 11 January and 23 February. In Glasgow screenings are split between the Glasgow Film Theatre and the university theatre at Gilmorehill. Eight films will be shown at the GFT from 5 to 29 January while others will be at the University from 1-3 February. Further details are available from the cinemas.

We don't see so many Japanese films in Scotland and this festival promises to be a real treat. I hope that many JSS members will enjoy these films.
